X files movie marathon: some of my favourite episodes

June 15, 2008 by txfcabinet

Here are the episodes I saw yesterday as part of my X files movie marathon; Irresistible, Die Hand die verletzt, Fresh bones, Colony, End game, Fearful symmetry and Dod kalm.

I love Irresistible. Donnie Pfaster really is pure evil. Lots of Scully angst, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is also the first episode were she started her “I’m fine” mantra. I wonder how many times Scully will be saying “I’m fine” in the new X files movie?

If you were wondering why Mulder is still single, it’s not because he’s spooky and believes in the existence of extra-terrestrials, it’s because of his technique to ask a woman out on a date; he takes Scully to a desecrated grave (not warning her about what she’s about to see) and then, after she’s thoroughly upset, asks her to go see a football game with him.

In Die Hand die verletzt an actor from another one of my favourite shows plays Jim Ausbury, Dan Butler, who plays Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe on Frasier.
Favourite quotes from this episode:

Scully: “I think he incited your imagination. I think this case is nothing more than a murderer taking advantage of local folklore. I mean, there’s nothing odd about —”
[Scully is interrupted by a rain of toads]
Mulder: “So… lunch?”
Scully: “Mulder! Toads just fell from the sky!”
Mulder: “I guess their parachutes didn’t open. You were saying something about this place not feeling odd?”

First time Mulder and Scully shower together…they don’t look too happy though…
You do have to admire Mulder, even in a hopeless situation like that he’s trying to shield Scully with his own body from any bullets…or was he trying something else?

Colony and End game continue the mytharc storyline, introducting Mulder’s abducted sister Samantha (well, sort of anyway) and his parents. Colony is also the first episode in which we see Brian Thompson as the alien bounty hunter. Which causes Scully to lose shoes to the green alien goo every other scene.

My favourite quote:
Scully:
“I mean, whatever happened to ‘Trust no one’, Mulder?”
Mulder: “Oh, I changed it to ‘Trust everyone’. Didn’t I tell you?”

Mulder points a gun at Skinner for the first time in End game. As a matter of fact it’s a pretty bad episode for the Skinman, but he does prove his loyalty to Mulder and Scully.

Here’s something we’ll be seeing a lot more as the series continues; Scully at Mulder’s hospital bed. Only Mulder waking after yet another serious injury can cause a full-blown Scully smile like that.

As for Dod kalm, what can I say, Mulder and Scully have looked better…

Favourite Dod kalm quotes:
Scully: “Feeling any better?”
Mulder: “No. You’re lucky you inherited your father’s legs.”
Scully: “What?”
Mulder: “Sea legs.”

Mulder: “You know, I always thought when I got older, I’d maybe take a cruise somewhere. This isn’t exactly what I had in mind… The service on this ship is terrible, Scully.

X files movie marathon: still going strong

June 14, 2008 by txfcabinet

Managed to watch four more episodes last night during my X files movie marathon; Firewalker, Red museum, Exelsius Dei, Aubrey.

I have to admit, when each episode started it actually took me several minutes to recognise the story. I guess I never paid too much attention when I watched them before…

From a shipper point of view I really liked Firewalker and Red museum. Firewalker because of the obvious concern Mulder has about Scully returning to work after waking up from the coma. And Red museum because apparently Scully is a messy eater ;-)

I liked the other two episodes as well, especially Aubrey. Very creepy storyline in my opinion, I think I would rather be abducted by aliens than having to go through what B.J. went through.

On to the next DVD…

X files movie marathon: I’m on a roll

June 13, 2008 by txfcabinet

Last night I actually started watching the 3rd dvd from the 2nd X files season. I’m finally making up for those days I only watched one episode. Although I have to admit I fell asleep halfway through Firewalker.

Ascension and One breath were better than I had remembered. So much Angst, and Mulder looked so sad and angry all the time.

A lot of very memorable scenes in these episodes. Krycek and the Smoking man showing their real faces. Frohike in a suit and bowtie visiting Scully in the hospital :) Mulder putting a gun to the Smoking man’s head and NOT pulling the trigger. Skinner putting a “thank you for not smoking” sign on his desk.

I certainly hope the new X files movie can tap into that mood even if it’s not about the mythology.

X files movie marathon: one movie down

June 12, 2008 by txfcabinet

Finally, last night I finished the first X files season. And watched 4 more episodes of the second X files season. Still having major doubts whether I will be able to watch all 9 seasons and Fight the future before the new X files movie “I want to believe”.

I didn’t remember this, but the Erlenmeyer Flask ends the same way as the Pilot episode; with old Smokey in the big Pentagon “let’s make some evidence disappear” room.
As all you X-philes know this is also the “last” episode with Deep Throat where he first says Mulder’s new motto “Trust no-one”.

Little green men proves Mulder can speak Spanish…NOT…”Jorge, don’t touch that red button. Noho on the Rojo.”

Apparently I keep confusing Blood with the episode where Mulder’s color blindness saves the day. Memorable Mulder quote: “Frohike, it’s men like you that give perversion a bad name.”

Sleepless introduces two new characters: the ever so friendly “X” and our beloved/hated Krycek.

The last episode I watched was Duane Barry. Famous for two reasons: Scully’s kidnapping and Mulder’s red speedo.

X files movie marathon: back on track

June 11, 2008 by txfcabinet

I’m back on track with the X files movie marathon…well, sort of anyway.

Last night I watched 3 more episodes (Darkness falls, Tooms and Born again). I was actually aiming for 5 which would have concluded the first X files season.

What I like about watching a movie/series again is that you tend to notice a lot more.

Like, all through Darkness falls I kept thinking; you’re in the middle of the woods, loads of cut down trees all around you, if you need light just build a fire. To restore my belief in the X files series and my two favourite agents I’ll just assume they tried that but the wood wouldn’t burn because of the insect residue covering it…or is that stretching things?

As for Tooms, that’s one of my favourite episodes. Lots of shippiness going on, and I really like the actor who played Tooms, the way he can look is just downright creepy.
The Skinman also makes his first appearance in Tooms, while CSM gets to say “his first words”.
At the moment I’m still wondering where I can get a safety lock for the toilet seat…If anyone asks why I bought (don’t have children) I’ll just say it’s to prevent my ferrets from claiming the toilet as their private indoor swimming pool. A lot more believable than liver eating mutants right…

X files movie marathon: so much for good intentions

June 10, 2008 by txfcabinet

I’m going nowhere fast with my marathon. Fell asleep last night, 5 times actually, while watching Shapes. Ended up watching the last 5 minutes at 3am. I don’t think I should repeat that too often as I have to get up at 6am to go to work.

At this rate, I should be happy if I can get to the X files movie “Fight the future”.

The X files movie marathon begins

June 9, 2008 by txfcabinet

I started watching again from the very first episode on 05/06. Only managed to watch 2 episodes that evening, but I was hooked again :-)

It’s really funny to see Mulder and Scully so young and relatively happy compared to later episodes.

Laughed my head off with Gender Bender, the look on Scully’s face when what’s his name touches her hand :-)

So now it’s Monday, and yesterday I’ve only gotten as far as Miracle Man (1×17). As a matter a fact I fell asleep halfway through that episode. In my defence I had seen 7 episodes before that one and spent the entire day at the zoo (apparently not all gorillas are as artistic as on the X files).

Hopefully I can watch 3 or 4 episodes this evening. Definetly want to watch Tooms again, I’m a shipper so I’m a sucker for the “ice tea conversation” :-)

New X files movie to be released

June 9, 2008 by txfcabinet

You’ve probably heard there’s a new X files movie coming out this summer. The official title is ”I want to believe”.

As soon as I found out the release date I decided to watch the whole series again before going to see the new X files movie. Unfortunately for me, I found out the release date pretty late, June 5th to be precise. Not sure how I’m going to manage watching all 9 seasons before the new X files movie is released in Belgium on July 30th, but I’m certainly going to try.

Which reminds me, I have to squeeze (get it, squeeze ;-) in the first X files movie as well…maybe I should call in sick at work…for a month or so…

I’ve already gone through all the bloopers on YouTube, so hopefully I can stay away from other X files distractions and concentrate on the series before the X files movie is released.
